Abstract

This paper calls for an expansion of historical archaeology in both chronological and geographical scope. Moreover, it aims at a critical scrutiny of the use of prehistoric methods, perspectives, and theories in historical archaeology. The paper argues for a stronger alignment with humanities and cultural history through micro historic perspectives and theoretical perspectives of intersectionality. There is a need for an expansion of historical archaeology of class, gender and intercultural relations of the iron age, medieval, early modern, and modern periods. Concurrently there is a need for stronger historical archaeology to apply triangulation methods in the study of material, written, and visual sources in past time-spaces to write relevant and inclusive historical archaeologies of the whole of Scandinavia, but also Europe and the wider global world.
